Sydney City2Surf: Drivers warned of major road closures ahead of iconic funrun
- Roads are closed in parts of Sydney
- 80,000 people will run the City2Surf
Motorists in Sydney are warned to plan ahead with major road closures in the CBD and eastern suburbs ahead of City2Surf on Sunday.
An estimated 80,000 participants will take part in the iconic run, which winds its way through the city and eastern suburbs before finishing at Bondi Beach.
NSW Police said road closures and event thoroughfares were planned and urged residents to plan ahead to avoid congestion and delays.
“Our priority is to ensure that the route and surrounding areas are safe for the many thousands of people taking part in the much-celebrated run,” Supt Radmore said.
“We encourage local residents and the wider community to use public transport and plan your journey in advance as there will be significant road closures in Sydney’s CBD and eastern suburbs, as well as special event routes all along the race route.”
Road closures around the starting lines on College and Park Streets in the CBD will begin at 3.30am on Sunday before roads in the eastern suburbs begin to close at 6am.

“Special evacuation routes will be in place on Sunday between 1am and 12am in the CBD and between 1am and 4pm in the Eastern Suburbs,” Detective Jodi Radmore said.
“Make sure you pay close attention to the signage as vehicles left at special event areas – even those with local parking permits – will be towed away and charges will apply,” Superintendent Radmore said.
Roads in the CBD, Kings Cross, Darlinghurst and Edgecliff will reopen from 11.30am, in the eastern suburbs from 1pm, while roads in Bondi will remain closed until 4pm.
“Participants and volunteers should take advantage of the extra public transport when traveling to and from the City2Surf this weekend, your journey will be covered on the network and save you the stress of looking for a park,” said Superintendent Radmore.
“Police transport commanders will also patrol the Bondi Junction public transport hub to keep the area safe for commuters and members of the general public.”
“Participants and volunteers must use the additional public transport services,” said Superintendent Radmore
