Sydney train commuters urgently evacuated at Bankstown after fellow passenger set insulation alight in carriage

A train in Sydney has been evacuated after a passenger started a fire in one of the carriages.

Firefighters rushed to Bankstown station, where the train stopped at around noon on Saturday.

A Transport for NSW spokesperson said the passenger had taken an object, believed to be insulation, onto the train and set it on fire.

Fire and Rescue NSW were called to Bankstown station after reports a passenger brought an object onto a train and set it on fire

“A patron took something on the train and set it on fire,” the spokesperson said.

The fire was extinguished and no injuries were reported.

Trains in the area are running normally again.
