Mum’s ‘hack’ proves Aussie parents are going way too far with their kids’ school lunchboxes: ‘Stop catering to their every demand’

A mum has divided opinion after revealing the unconventional way she packs her son’s school lunch box.

The Sydney mum said her son is a ‘fussy eater’ and always came home with his food untouched.

After realizing he didn’t like sandwiches, the mom came up with a creative way to get him to eat: deconstructed sandwich skewers.

“I try to vary what I put on the stick every day, to keep it exciting,” she says on Facebook. “He ate the whole thing every day, even though it always came back when I sent the sandwich.”

The mother recently sent him brown bread, cucumber and meat on a wooden skewer.

She also added blueberries, cooked apple slices, pizza-flavored cookies, and chocolate and coconut balls.

Many parents were impressed after discovering the Sydney mum’s deconstructed sandwich idea, while others thought it was a step too far.

“Oh, this is such a great idea!” said one. ‘I have such a fussy child too! I’ll try this.’

“My kids refuse to eat sandwiches too, but they love toast,” said another.

Controversially, the mother put in a small glass bottle of juice, which parents had previously criticized as being dangerous.

Many were quick to point out that the mother sending glass bottles to school with her children was a recipe for disaster – with even one teacher claiming it was a ‘terrible’ idea and recommending plastic bottles instead.

“I once had a student bring in a glass bottle,” she said. ‘It smashed everywhere. You only have to give a little tap and then there is glass and liquid everywhere.’

Others had similar criticisms, wondering why the mother would take the risk when there were plenty of child-resistant bottles in the supermarket.

“The problem with school is that it’s easy to bump into and break,” says another.

“No matter how careful a child is, accidents can and will happen,” one parent wrote.

A mother has sparked outrage after posting an ‘innocent’ photo online

Another mum recently sparked outrage after posting an ‘innocent’ photo of herself showing off online her impressive collection of b.box lunch boxes.

The high-quality bento boxes range from $32.95 to $36.95 and are typically considered high-end. That’s why parents were shocked when the Queensland mum revealed she had 13 units to share between her two children.

“I can’t believe how many people are mad about my kids’ lunchbox collection,” she said. ‘They’re literally just lunch boxes! Luckily I didn’t show their collections of drinking bottles and accessories.’

Several people claimed that the mother’s collection was ‘unnecessary hoarding’.

Parents on Facebook slammed the culture of overconsumption, saying there was ‘no point’ in buying quality products and using them ‘as single-use plastic’.

“I can barely afford one,” one mother wrote.

“My son’s finally broke after three years, which I think is a pretty good thing. Can’t you just order the top part?’ another argued.

“Why do you need thirteen for two children?” asked a mother.

Another said: ‘I have three children. They each have their own color and that’s it.’
