Terrifying load of empty liquor bottles is found in the back of a police car: How young cop, 25, blew five times the legal limit ‘after a ute collision that injured a toddler’: ‘I don’t know how to defend it’
- The off-duty police officer was charged Wednesday with high-range PCA
- He is a probationary agent with the South West metropolitan region
An off-duty police officer has been arrested after breaking the legal limit nearly five times after crashing his car into an ute.
The 25-year-old off-duty police officer was charged with high-range PCA after the Ashcroft crash in Sydney’s southwest on Wednesday.
Empty cans and bottles of high-alcohol cider, beer, a barrel of wine and a cooler were seen in the back seat of the officer’s Honda Accord.
According to the police, the man is an off-duty officer attached to a commando in the South West metropolitan region.
He was taken to Liverpool Police Station where a breath analysis yielded an alleged value of 0.243.
Empty beer and wine cans and bottles have been spotted in the back of a car that crashed in southwestern Sydney on Wednesday.
Police Commissioner Karen Webb is “seriously concerned” about the incident and says the officer had only been on the job for four months.
His driver’s license has been revoked and his job is on the line.
“His employment status will be assessed today,” she told radio 2GB in Sydney on Thursday.
The case goes to court, but the commissioner can take action to fire the officer without waiting for the outcome of the case.
“I don’t know how you’d defend it,” Mrs. Webb said.
“There’s a trial — I’ll have to present him with papers, he’ll get a chance to respond, but I can start all that and plan to start that before the lawsuit comes up,” she said.
The officer has been notified of presence in court for high-range PCA and is due to appear in Liverpool court on December 14.
The police commissioner says a police officer will likely be removed from the force after being charged with drink-driving.
More to come.
