Flight delays at Sydney Airport due to wild winds

  • Weather has canceled flights at Sydney Airport

Dozens of domestic flights at Sydney Airport have been canceled or delayed due to the wild weather conditions.

Sydney Airport restricted flights to a single runway at about 8 a.m. due to strong winds and scattered storm cells hitting the region.

A spokeswoman for Sydney Airport told Daily Mail Australia several airlines canceled flights last night due to weather warnings.

“We encourage passengers to inquire with their airline about the status of their flight,” the airport advised.

Several flights have been canceled or delayed at Sydney Airport due to bad weather conditions

Despite the massive delays, operations at the airport have remained largely calm as most passengers were notified of flight changes on Thursday.

Qantas confirmed that a number of its flights have been canceled or delayed in Sydney, Brisbane due to a shortage of air traffic control personnel and Melbourne due to bad weather conditions.

Jetstar and Virgin also canceled or delayed several flights.

The Bureau of Meteorology predicts that the intense weather over Sydney will ease later in the afternoon.

Winds were expected to peak at 35 km/h in the late morning before dropping to 15 to 25 km/h in the evening.

More to come.
