The article was published on Wednesday and the couple has since made further comments online and in person about their split.
This included a tweet from de Blasio describing their breakup as a “love story.”
Meanwhile, others took to the bird app to discuss what it would be like to come across his profile on a popular dating app like Tinder — where users swipe right on a profile if they like what they see, and left if they don’t.
One person joked, “Bill de Blasio updated his tinder biography to “in an open marriage, but dating separately, looking for friends or something more, 6’5”.’
Another user described their breakup announcement via the New York Times as an “early warning” that either party could appear on a dating app.
“Bill de Blasio and Chirlane McCray gave us an early warning that we might see them on Feeld or Tinder,” they said. “You know what, I appreciate it.”
“The second time the news of Bill de Blasio’s Tinder profile goes public will be a really fun moment in New York City history,” another joked.
Referring to De Blasio’s dyed hair — which he discussed in the breakup interview as something he’d tried out late last year — one person said it could be an early sign that he’s getting ready to launch some dating profiles.
“People at the NYC Press noticed that Bill de Blasio started dyeing his hair,” they tweeted. “Looks like someone’s on Tinder.”
In the New York Times interview, De Blasio said he “never expected to do anything with hair color ever,” but opted for a strikingly dark, close-cropped cut — having previously sported a slightly longer, gray mane.
