Police divers have been battling treacherous conditions to find a Swedish student who plunged seven meters off a cliff and was washed into the sea as his friends looked on in horror.

Swedish student Noa Sage, 20, was climbing the cliffs with friends at Bluefish Point in Sydney’s North Head when she lost her grip and fell around 5:30pm on Wednesday.

His friends were left helpless as Mr. Sage appeared to suffer a head injury on the rocks below before a tidal wave swept him out to sea.

Swedish student Noa Sage has not been seen since he fell from a 7-meter-high cliff in Sydney and was washed into the sea as his friends watched horrified.

Northern Beaches Police Superintendent Pat Sharkey told reporters that conditions had been challenging.

“In the last 24 hours the sea state has been quite high, particularly in coastal waters, so it has restricted the availability and operation of some of our assets, but we are still continuing to search,” Superintendent Sharkey told Nine News.

Noa arrived in Sydney in September and had been working as a waitress while living in the northern seaside suburb of Manly.

Superintendent Sharkey said that Swedish consular officers had been notified of his disappearance and that Noah’s family was en route to Australia.

Police divers searched for Noa throughout the day Thursday as they battled treacherous conditions.

The police also offered social assistance and counseling to friends who witnessed the tragedy.

The friends have given statements to the police.

Blue Fish Point is not an area recommended for the general public.

The area has been fenced off, however there are parts where the netting is down and there is an unmarked trail up the cliff.

Superintendent Sharkey urged those walking the northern bluffs to follow marked trails.
