Grave fears for international student, 20, who plunged off the side of a 25-foot cliff and was then swept across the rocks by large surf

A frantic search is underway to find an international student who plunged over the side of a cliff and was then swept across the rocks by large surf.

The 20-year-old Swedish student fell at least 7m from the side of Blue Fish Point on the North Head of Sydney Harbor at around 5:30pm on Wednesday.

Witnesses said the young man was lying unconscious on the rock platform, having sustained a serious head injury, before he was swept away by the sea.

The initial search for the man had to be called off due to low light at 8:00 p.m. and the search resumed Thursday morning.

Northern Beaches Police Superintendent Pat Sharkey told reporters that conditions for the initial marine search had been challenging.

“The man has not been found…police have been advised that the man’s family will arrive in Sydney in the near future.”
