The Sydney Swans are mourning the death of club legend Kenny Williams.

A former jockey, Williams, 93, was affectionately known as the team’s “hydration specialist” and was a respected figure with the Bloods.

The Swans Tragically was a regular in the sheds at the Sydney Cricket Ground and, as a four-year-old, also stood in the stands at the MCG when Sydney – then known as South Melbourne – won their third VFL/AFL flag in 1933.

In 2005, he made his way to Melbourne again when the Swans ended a 72-year premiership drought by beating West Coast.

Williams first became a fixture when Ron Barassi was head coach – and then Rodney Eade encouraged the man with a catchy personality to lead the club anthem.

The Swans confirmed the news of Williams’ death on Twitter.

“A man who cheered everyone who knew him so much,” the club tweeted on Wednesday.

“We are incredibly saddened by the passing of Kenny Williams, a wonderful man who has dedicated his life to the red and white.

“We extend our condolences to Yvonne, Dianne, his family and friends during this time.”

Swan legend Jude Bolton also tweeted his deepest condolences.

’93 years filled to the brim with love for his family, his sport and a good time,’ said Bolton.

“Always cherished by Kenny Williams’ passionate post-match vocals, his support for us as chief hydration expert and advice on home-cooked meals.”

Williams’ meals – prepared by his doting wife Yvonne – were legendary with the Swans – with club greats Bolton, Adam Goodes, Barry Hall and Leo Barry regulars at his home.

The Swans suffered another tragic blow on Sunday when longtime team manager and lifelong member John Payne also died.

He was a week shy of his 77th birthday.
