Swans star Taylor Adams’ cheeky taunt of former teammate sees him flattened and divides footy fans

Swans star Taylor Adams helped swing the game towards Sydney with a cheeky taunt at the Crows defenders, sparking wild scenes during Saturday night’s match at Adelaide Oval.

The Crows led by 23 points late in the second quarter of the game, and they beat Joel Amartey’s initial blitzkrieg to still lead by 16 points late in the third quarter.

However, things got wild when Amarty scored his sixth and seventh goals, prompting Adams to rub the Crows players by raising seven fingers.

Defender Mitch Hinge responded by dropping Adams with a heavy shoulder attack directly in front of the referee.

Adams was awarded a free-kick which gave the Swans another shot on target – and he converted.

“That’s the worst thing I’ve ever seen,” Port Adelaide legend Dom Cassisi said on Triple M.

“If I were Nicks, I’d drag him along. That’s a coach killer. That doesn’t help your football club.

‘He blinded him. He made a sniper. For no reason. It came from 10 yards away. It was not necessary.’

However, many footy fans felt Adams was taking a dive.

‘A flopping show. Weak as,” one fan posted to X.

“Is he an ex-footballer,” another responded.

Former Port Adelaide skipper Tom Jonas believed Adams had implicated the opposition in the act.

“There was a lot of feeling in this match tonight,” he said on Triple M.

“One thing we know is that Taylor Adams is a pest and he sucked them in and lured them in and he got what he wanted: a free kick. Really disappointing for the Crows.”

Amartey’s heroics ultimately proved too much for the Crows as Sydney secured the 16.13 (109) to 10.7 (67) win.

The win was Sydney’s ninth on the trot, and took them three wins clear at the top of the ladder with a record of 12-1.

Amartey did not have his name at his disposal during the quarter period, but he scored four goals in the second term and another four in the third to turn the match on its head.

He added another goal in the final term, giving him a 9.1 from 10 disposals.

But there was no room for sentiment from coach John Longmire, with Amartey spending the final minutes of the match on the bench despite goal No. 10 beckoning.

“It was just my rotation,” Amartey said with a laugh.

“The boys played a great game.

‘It’s a team game. The service I received tonight was pretty phenomenal.

‘In our offensive line you don’t know who scores the goals every week,

“I think that’s the beauty of our midrange and our forward line, and that’s why we’re so dangerous right now, because everyone can have their day.”

The 24-year-old’s return was the highest by a Sydney player since Lance Franklin kicked 10 against Carlton in Round 23 of 2017.

Amartey’s previous personal best was four goals, but his magical night against Adelaide increased his season tally to 31 goals and put him in the mix for the Coleman Medal.

For rival clubs looking to steal Amartey, you’ve missed your chance.

Amartey was taken with pick No. 28 in the 2018 rookie draft and re-signed with Sydney last year until 2026 and has no plans to leave.

‘I love this place, I love Sydney. The boys here are my brothers now,” Amartey told Fox Sports.
