A woman who had been missing for seven years was discovered by police in a motel after they heard her desperate screams.

The suspected human trafficking victim, now in her 30s, disappeared in 2017, but she managed to call her parents to tell them she was being held against her will.

Police arrived at the Evergreen Motel and heard disturbing screams leading them to the room.

“They described it as a howling, sort of screaming sound that attracted them to that specific area,” Michigan State Police Lt. Mike Shaw said. WXYZ.

Officers managed to gain entry and found the woman alone.

She was physically unharmed, but authorities discovered drugs and a firearm in the room.

Police said she was taken to the hospital where she was receiving counseling and reunited with her family.

Officers released no further details about how she disappeared and declined to reveal her identity.

“They described it as a howling, sort of screaming noise that attracted them to that specific area,” said Lt. Mike Shaw with the Michigan State Police.

Human trafficking detectives are investigating the missing person case.

“We’ll kind of look at what the next step is right… interview her if in fact a crime occurred, like human trafficking, or is it a domestic violence situation or is it something else,” Lt.

“I don’t want to use the word kidnapping as if someone took her and took her to that place.

“It could be that it started as a relationship that turned into being held against your will and trafficked.”

Authorities have identified a suspect, but no one has been arrested.
