Suspect shows no shame in his mugshot after being arrested for driving his truck into waters at Florida beach

This is the moment a man drove his white pickup truck into the water on a Florida beach before being arrested, flashing a big grin during his mugshot.

Jason Brzuszkiewicz, 49, decided to take his truck for a spin in the ocean Tuesday morning in New Smyrna Beach.

Brzuszkiewicz reached the beach by driving around a locked gate with a ‘DO NOT ENTER’ sign on it and refused to pay the toll to leave his car there.

The beach was closed at the time due to high tide, as witnesses captured the man’s truck driving through rough waves.

Police from the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office eventually caught up with Brzuszkiewicz when he told them, “It’s not my fault the truck isn’t surfing,” and laughed about it.

He was charged with failure to pay vehicle entrance fees and was taken to the Volusia County Branch Jail, where he was held on a $200 bond.

Brzuszkiewicz is seen smiling in his mugshot photo with a red gash on his forehead. He was charged with failure to pay vehicle entrance fees and taken to the Volusia County Branch Jail, where he is being held on a $200 bond.

The bizarre video begins as Brzuszkiewicz’s truck drives through rough waves along the water. As the white waves crash against his vehicle, Brzuszkiewicz continues to drive forward as his truck begins to sway back and forth from the force of the water.

At one point his car is swept away by the current and goes deeper into the ocean before he tries to steer out.

Just as he is about to reach shore, his car spins uncontrollably back into the water, straight into the crashing waves.

The video then changes to bodycam footage as Brzuszkiewicz sits on the sand with his black baseball hat covering part of his face.

One of the officers informs another about the situation as Brzuszkiewicz interrupts them and says, “It’s not my fault the truck isn’t surfing!” I thought I was surfing,” he told police.

“Yes, but you are not allowed to drive on the beach with closed gates,” an officer tells him.

“I thought I was in England,” says Brzuszkiewicz.

The officer replies: ‘You thought you were in England?’

While talking to police about the incident, Brzuszkiewicz continued to smile and joke as he told officers, “It’s not my fault the truck isn’t surfing!”

“Yes,” says Brzuszkiewicz with a big smile on his face.

“You’re not in England,” the officer replies.

Brzuszkiewicz then laughs and asks the officer, “Are we not in Kansas anymore?”

“No,” the officer answers.

Brzuszkiewicz then asks, “Can that get me in trouble?”

“Yes, yes, jail time if that’s what it takes,” the officer tells him.

‘Real? How many?’

“A misdemeanor right now,” the officer tells Brzuszkiewicz before the video shows another officer arresting him as he asks if he can make a phone call once he gets to jail.

“Fantastic, that will be on Facebook today,” says the officer whose bodycam recorded the incident.

As the white waves crashed against his vehicle, Brzuszkiewicz continued to drive forward as his truck began to sway from the force of the water.

It is unclear why exactly Brzuszkiewicz drove his car into the water and whether he was under the influence of drugs or alcohol. He is seen being handcuffed by an officer

A mug shot showed Brzuszkiewicz smiling with a red, bloody gash on the left side of his forehead.

Commenters flocked to the video posted to the sheriff’s Facebook page, in which one said, “We allow driving on the beach, not in the ocean.”

“Hopefully he has farmer’s insurance because they’ve seen some things,” said another.

“He was on his way to save the orcas in Japan,” wrote another, referring to the whales trapped in the ice in northern Japan.
