Suspect in custody after hours-long shooting spree in Texas: Man in his 30s linked to shooting of two police officers and two others in Austin, as well as a ‘grisly’ double homicide in San Antonio
A man has been arrested in connection with a series of shootings that killed at least four people, injured two police officers and may have spread across multiple cities.
The suspect has yet to be identified, with officials saying only that he is a man in his 30s who began his crime spree in Austin on Tuesday morning.
The massacre began just before 11 a.m. at Northeast Early College High School, where the suspect allegedly shot one of the Austin Independent School District officers.
Minutes later, he was in South Austin, where he is accused of shooting two people on Shadywood Drive.
Late Tuesday night, a vigil was held at that home, which had just completed a months-long renovation.

Neighbors claimed that the people living there had only moved a few days earlier. They said the man of the house brought cookies and apologized for any disruption the construction had caused.
Later that day, around 7pm local time, police received reports of a burglary on the Austral Loop in the southwestern part of the city.
The gunman shot and wounded a second Austin police officer before fleeing, prompting a high-speed chase from police.
Police are still trying to determine the well-being of the people in the home they were called to, police said Austin American statesman.
The officer involved in the second shooting is believed to have non-life-threatening injuries. KAXN reports.
There may be more injuries, as a cyclist told the station he saw another motorcyclist being taken away by an EMT with a gunshot wound.
The chase eventually ended in an accident near an intersection.
Later, Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar said a double homicide in San Antonio is being investigated in connection with these three shootings.

Salazar, who described the killings as “grisly,” said officials believe the pair were killed before the Austin shooting.
Austin and San Antonio police are investigating the shootings in connection with each other because the suspect in Austin has ties to the home where the man and woman were killed.
According to Salazar, it is not yet clear what that connection is.
The Northeast Early College High School campus was placed on lockdown around 10:46 a.m. when police arrived. The school conducted a controlled release of students shortly afterwards.
Later that day, around 7pm local time, police received reports of a burglary on the Austral Loop in the southwestern part of the city.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott issued a statement about the shooting.
“Our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of the Austin ISD police officer who was shot today near Northeast Early College High School,” Abbott said.
“Our ISD police officers play a critical role in keeping Texas students and school faculty safe. The State of Texas is providing all available resources to local law enforcement partners working to ensure this dangerous criminal is caught and brought to justice.”
The deaths in Austin were the city's 67th and 68th homicides of 2023, according to police.
