Sushi Bay collapses after restaurant chain’s last store in Darwin went into liquidation
Popular restaurant chain is officially closing – all stores are now closed
A beloved sushi restaurant chain has gone out of business after its last store closed.
Sushi Bay collapsed last month with multimillion-dollar debt as all of its restaurants in NSW and the ACT went into liquidation or had to close in recent months.
The last Darwin store was declared bankrupt on Monday.
The chain’s demise came after the Deputy Commissioner of Taxes began to finalize proceedings against the Sushi Bay network.
Christopher Palmer of insolvency firm O’Brien Palmer was recently appointed as trustee of Sushi Bay, Sushi Bay ACT and Auskobay.

Sushi Bay had dozens of stores across Sydney in its heyday, as well as stores on NSW’s central and southern coasts.
It also had stores in Canberra and Darwin, which was its last store until this week.
The Fair Work Ombudsman is investigating all three companies for alleged violations of the Fair Work Act.
The Ombudsman is also prosecuting owner and sole director Yi Jeong “Rebecca” Shin for allegedly underpaying $650,000 to 163 workers over a four-year period between 2016 and 2020.
