Susan Sarandon ARRESTED at New York State Capitol protest to raise minimum wage for tipped restaurant workers

Actress Susan Sarandon has been jailed after attending a protest at the New York State Capitol in Albany in support of raising the minimum wage for tipped restaurant workers.

New York state lawmakers are preparing to raise the minimum wage to $17 an hour, though tipped restaurant workers will be excluded from this new law.

Spectrum 1 Albany reporter Kate Lisa also shared a video on Twitter, in which the activists — including former New York lieutenant governor nominee Ana Maria Archila — chanted, “One fair wage!” repeatedly.

They also tried to spread a huge pink banner across the hall before being arrested for disorderly conduct.

Sarandon and the others were all processed, tickets issued for performances and released.

The last time New York State raised the minimum wage to $15 in 2016, a report claimed wages for tips fell 25% at the time.

Before her arrest, Sarandon spoke at the meeting, where she emphasized the importance of these workers.

“They are very, very important and should be treated with dignity, not just because of the grueling work they do, but also because of what they have to do to communicate and understand and be patient and all the things associated with a successful business,” Sarandon said.

Just days earlier, Sarandon was walking the streets of New York City walking the picket line for the Writers Guild of America strike.

The actress was spotted holding a Writers Guild of America East sign as she marched outside Netflix’s headquarters in New York City.

She has shown support for a number of charities throughout her career, more recently supporting the Palestinian people for “the fight against Netanyahu’s government.”

Sarandon was also arrested in June 2018 during the Women Disobey protests in Washington DC
