Susan Boyle tells how she’s turned to disgraced Aussie ‘wellness guru’ as she battles back to health after stroke

She had a stroke two years ago and has worked hard to get healthy again.

But now Susan Boyle has revealed she has turned to a disgraced alternative medicine guru who is banned from providing health care in several Australian states.

The 63-year-old singer is experimenting with “natural health remedies” from Barbara O’Neill, a self-described “international speaker on natural healing.”

She began following Mrs O’Neill’s advice after suffering a stroke in 2022.

The Britain’s Got Talent runner-up, from Blackburn, West Lothian, says she is not abandoning traditional medicine but is exploring complementary treatments after discovering Ms O’Neill’s work online.

It came after ‘wellness educator’ Ms O’Neill, 71, was banned from providing healthcare in her native Australia after she gave questionable advice to vulnerable people, including using sodium bicarbonate as a treatment for cancer.

Despite this, she has more than a million followers on social media and travels the world giving talks, including this month at the Crieff Hydro Hotel in Perthshire, where she met Ms Boyle.

The I Dreamed a Dream singer told The Mail on Sunday: ‘Barbara is a big believer in alternative medicine.

“You have to broaden your view. I don’t replace traditional medicines, I add to them.

‘I know Barbara has gotten into trouble before, but at the event she was amazing.

“She’s helped a lot of people in the past. I’ve watched a lot of her stuff on YouTube and she’s really good at what she does and it was fun to meet her.”

The event on September 10 cost £99 per person and included talks on ‘DNA and the True Cause of Disease’ and ‘Heart Health and High Blood Pressure’.

Ms Boyle would not reveal what treatments Ms O’Neill has tried, but insisted she is now in good health, which could mean she will return to touring.

She said: ‘I’m fit as a fiddle and ready to work. I want to get back out there and do it again.’

Five years ago, Ms O’Neill was banned from providing health care in four Australian states.

A health watchdog found she had given chemotherapy patients risky advice, told pregnant women not to take antibiotics and spread dangerous ideas about children’s diets and vaccinations.

Ms O’Neill said: ‘My role is to get this message out to as many people as possible. The ban has actually set me free.

“It gave me the freedom to go to places I otherwise would never have gone.”
