- The Brooklyn-born contestant died at his home in Manhattan on Sept. 3, according to his obituary

Survivor: Nicaragua contestant Dan Lembo has passed away at the age of 75.
The Brooklyn-born contestant — who competed on Survivor’s 21st season in 2010 — passed away at his home in Manhattan on Sept. 3, according to his obituary.
A cause of death for Dan – born Daniel Louis Lembo – is not yet known.

He is survived by his sons Matthew and Michael; daughters-in-law, Emily and Dana; grandchildren, Ava, Annabelle, Sailor, James, and Harper; and former husband, Barbara.
His family remembered him as a “charismatic, larger than life, extroverted bon vivant” who loved “nothing more than spending time with his kids and friends – new and old.”
On weekends he enjoyed softball in Bridgehampton with friends. Daniel will be remembered as a friend to all and a father of two,” the obituary read.

His son Matt praised him for being his “best friend,” while Michael wrote, “No matter what the situation, you were always there for me.” You were my first call.’
Lembo – who was part of the Espada tribe on Survivor – was 63 when he placed 5th on the popular reality TV show, losing 25 pounds.
Although he was not known for his great physical performance during the challenges – in part due to his previous knee surgeries – he was nevertheless well liked by his fellow competitors.

He even made it to the final five before being voted off on Day 37.
Lembo was already a millionaire when he decided to join Survivor after a successful real estate career.
“I didn’t play Survivor for money, I wanted the adventure,” he told People after his elimination.
“I’m the type of guy who sees a challenge and thinks, ‘I could do that.’ So I wanted to be a part of this crazy game – and I did pretty well I’d say! I’ve come a long way.’
