Surry Hills, Sydney man plunges from a balcony after an argument and fights for his life

A 51-year-old man has fallen from a balcony in Sydney and is fighting for his life in hospital.

New South Wales Police arrived at a unit on Belvoir Street, in Surry Hills, after hearing the man arguing about 11.30am on Thursday.

However, when officers entered the unit, they discovered he had fallen from the balcony.

NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the 51-year-old at the scene before taking him to nearby St Vincent’s Hospital in a critical condition.

“A crime scene was established, with a critical incident team from Kings Cross Police Area Command investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident,” a police statement said.

Initial investigations indicate that the man’s fall was the result of a mental illness and is not considered suspicious.

The investigation will be subject to an independent review by the Law Enforcement Conduct Commission.
