Surry Hills stand-off: Man is arrested after woman and baby allegedly taken hostage for 10 hours
A police standoff has ended after a man allegedly took a woman and a baby hostage at an apartment complex.
Specialist police raided the home on Belvoir Street in Surry Hills, Sydney, on Sunday morning and arrested a 36-year-old man more than 10 hours after he arrived on the scene.
The woman and baby were taken hostage on Saturday around 9:30 p.m.
The 36-year-old was taken to St. Vincent’s Hospital under police guard, while the woman and child were unharmed.

Negotiators joined specialist police and paramedics at the scene to try to break the standoff with the man and return the alleged hostages safely.
The public has been urged to avoid the area after police closed several roads around the complex.
