Suri Cruise splits from musician boyfriend Toby Cohen as he channels secret heartbreak into new music

Suri Cruise has ‘quietly’ split from her boyfriend Toby Cohen as the teenage sweethearts are no longer in touch following a short-lived summer romance, DailyMail.com can exclusively reveal.

The former couple went public in June when Toby, 18, attended prom with Suri, also 18, as her date, and in the weeks that followed the couple didn’t hesitate to show their love.

But the long-time friends called it quits on their romance before ‘going to university’ in August, with insiders claiming the split was ‘not easy’ for Suri.

The famous teen is currently a freshman at Carnegie Mellon University, while Toby is studying at the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston.

“Suri believed she was in love and wasn’t afraid to show it to the world, so the breakup wasn’t easy for her, but she worked through it with the help of her friends,” the insider said.

In addition to dealing with heartbreak, Suri also struggled with grieving the friendship the couple had enjoyed before they started dating.

“They quietly broke up at the end of the summer,” the source said. “She was good friends with him for a long time, so that made it extra difficult, but she is a strong young woman.”

However, the fashion student has now made peace with the breakup and knows that she has made the ‘right decision’.

“When she went to school and they both left, she knew she made the right decision,” the source continued.

“They’re not in contact at the moment, but she has no hard feelings towards him.”

Although the pair have not publicly announced their split, Toby appears to have channeled his heartbreak into his music, with the teen sharing covers of songs about love and loss on his music. TikTok account.

On August 16, the young singer performed Shawn Mendes’ song, Isn’t That Enough, with the lyrics: “My hand’s still shakin’ / my mind’s still racin’ / My heart’s still breakin’ in two.”

The source added, “It’s clear when this breakup happened because the tone of his music and his messages turned to heartache.”

In October, Toby shared a snippet of an original song he wrote that alluded to missing someone.

“Don’t say you miss shit, ’cause I miss me too,” he sang. “Our past is not history because the lies were true.”

That same month, he shared a snippet of another original song he wrote “about birds,” which touched on feelings about love and relationships.

“I’ve been listening to the birds/ ’cause they call when you’re in trouble/ I’ve been trying to find the words to tell you I love you,” he sang.

“I’ve been listening to birds ’cause I know you’re in trouble/ And I’m waiting by the window.”

Toby, who often duets with his girlfriends, performed the song on November 27 at the Mercury Lounge in New York City.

A second insider opened up about their split: “Yes, they broke up before college and she didn’t feel the need to share it with the world.

“These are two very private people who went through a breakup before starting their next chapter.”

They noted that Suri is now focused on experiencing all that life has to offer and does not plan to spend too much time mourning her failed love.

“Suri is only 18 and she has a whole life left to live,” they said. “She’s really enjoying this time as a freshman.”

Suri seemed smitten when Toby accompanied her to her LaGuardia High School prom back in June.

The aspiring musician was on big friend duty as he took photos of Suri and her friends.

They were later seen kissing during a number of low-key outings around the city, including in Central Park.

However, eyebrows were raised on August 5 when Suri was pictured in tears in Brooklyn during an emotional phone call.

But the young star proved she’s moving on after she was seen happier as she reunited with her mother in New York to celebrate Thanksgiving last week.

Katie helped her daughter move into her dorm in August, as the Dawson’s Creek alum was pictured showing off a big back while Suri twirled a suitcase.

Suri’s father Tom Cruise is funding her $65,000-a-year college tuition as part of the terms set out in his 2012 divorce from Katie.

The divorce documents stated that Tom will pay his daughter’s expenses, including “medical, dental, insurance, education, college and other extracurricular expenses.”

Katie and Tom got engaged just seven weeks after they first started dating in 2005.

Their Scientologist wedding was held at the Castello Orsini-Odescalchi in Bracciano in November 2006, seven months after Suri’s birth.

She filed for divorce in 2012 and retained primary custody of Suri, while Tom received visitation. It was completed just 10 days later.

Ron Miscavige, father of Scientology leader David Miscavige, told DailyMail.com in 2016 that Katie’s doubts about Scientology – including the effect it could have on Suri – contributed to her decision to leave Tom.

The Top Gun Maverick star reportedly paid Katie $400,000 a year until Suri turned 18.

Suri and Tom haven’t been photographed together in over a decade; their last public snapshot was taken in April 2013.

She seemed to confirm their estrangement when she changed her last name from Cruise to Noelle earlier this year. Noelle is Katie’s middle name.
