Suri Cruise, 18, kisses boyfriend Toby Cohen during date day in NYC – after Katie Holmes’ daughter graduated high school without estranged dad Tom Cruise

Suri Cruise was spotted kissing her boyfriend Toby Cohen during a date in New York on Thursday.

The 18-year-old daughter of actors Katie Holmes, 45, and Tom Cruise, 61, was spotted throwing her arms around her beau and kissing him Toby – who was she date at her LaGuardia High School prom last week.

Suri – who now uses her mother’s middle name as her surname – looked smitten as she looked into her boyfriend’s eyes and chatted with him as they enjoyed their pre-university break.

Cohen is an aspiring singer and songwriter who will attend the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston in the fall. Suri, who studied dance, is attending Carnegie Mellon in Pittsburgh.

Suri was the spitting image of mother Katie in Dawson’s Creek, wearing a short white shirt, pink shorts and clogs that day.

The teen wore her dark brown hair down and apparently had no makeup on.

Suri and Toby looked adorable at prom. They held hands and posed next to each other for photos.

Cohen also took the time to take photos of Suri and her friends, who were all dressed to the nines.

He appeared to protect the aspiring artist as he took her arm and led her inside the building where the prom was taking place.

Suri wore a corset top print dress that fell below her knee and gold strappy heels. Toby wore a blue suit with brown dress shoes.

Katie was nowhere to be seen outside the prom and Tom, who had been estranged from Suri for years, was in England with friends when he was spotted landing his helicopter at a London heliport.

This is the first time Suri is seen with a boyfriend.

The teen is usually seen with her mother Katie in New York City as they shop and dine together.

Holmes doesn’t often take Suri to red carpet events, as she has chosen a more private life for her child.

Suri – born on April 18, 2006 in Los Angeles – is the child of divorced parents.

Holmes married in Italy in November 2006, but they separated in 2012 after five years of marriage.

“My main goal is to let her know how much I love her,” the Dawson’s Creek actress told People in 2014. “Just to let her know that she’s so loved. If that’s the bottom line, who cares if my first two pancakes are always burnt?

‘Motherhood means everything to me. I learn every day, and I’ve been doing it ever since I became a mother.’

She added that she is a positive example for her mini-child.

“Between tickle fights and glitter art, I try to throw in some manners along the way. I try to have good manners too, so that’s what she sees,” said Holmes, who used to date Jamie Foxx.

“I also try to be very creative with her because I know she’s an artist, and that appeals to the girl in me,” Holmes said.

“Honestly? I probably won’t play tag. That’s not at the top of my list. But I will paint all day, I will do the creative stuff.”

And Katie also told Glamor magazine: ‘I didn’t know how much love I had inside me. It’s overwhelming. Every day I discover more about this spectacular human being of whom I am privileged to become a mother.’

During an appearance on the Today show in August 2014, Holmes shared, “The most important thing for me is to let her know how proud I am and that her achievements mean the world. Whatever I do, it doesn’t matter. It’s really just about her and that’s what I think is the most important thing.”

Meanwhile, Katie will soon be an empty nester.

Cruise has also hinted at where she’ll be attending college, as she wore a Carnegie Mellon University sweatshirt in early June.

DailyMail.com exclusively revealed that she has been accepted into Pittsburgh’s prestigious Carnegie Mellon University – about a two-hour flight or nine-hour drive from Berklee, where Toby will be studying.

Suri showed off her pride in her Tartan style in a playful TikTok video, wearing a sweatshirt from the university of their choice with her friends and revealing its name to the camera.

Suri, whose famous father played no role in her upbringing, was always determined to follow her own path.

She applied to a number of colleges, with the artistic teenager ‘leaning towards’ studying fashion.

Carnegie Mellon’s School of Design is one of the oldest and most respected schools in the country.

Now that she’s been admitted to the hallowed halls, a very chic mother, and a wardrobe reportedly worth $5 million, Suri is off to a good start if that’s her chosen path.

An insider told DailyMail.com: ‘She’s a smart girl and she’s turning into a very intelligent, mature young woman. She has a very close group of loyal friends and knows exactly where she comes from.’

While Holmes will undoubtedly be proud of her daughter’s amazing achievements, sources say she is “overwhelmed” at the thought of sending her daughter to college.

One of them recently told DailyMail.com: ‘Katie is very proud of herself, but is also extremely overprotective.’

That’s perhaps not surprising, considering Holmes has single-handedly raised Suri for the past eleven years.

Cruise’s only input into his daughter’s life has been financial and he has not been seen with his daughter since 2013, after Holmes left both the marriage and the Church of Scientology – the religion to which Cruise is so devout.

Under their divorce settlement, Cruise agreed to pay Holmes $400,000 a year until Suri turned 18 and would also continue to pay her college tuition.

Under the terms of their agreement, even though he is physically absent from his daughter’s life, he will pay “medical, dental, insurance, educational, college and other extracurricular expenses.”

But despite having little bond with her father, sources say Suri is a happy and well-rounded teen who loves growing up in New York City.

Earlier this week, she was spotted running in Central Park, enjoying her morning workout in the June sunshine.

She later swapped her workout gear for a simple white summer dress paired with brown boots as she headed out for dinner in Soho with her mother and grandmother, Kathleen Stomer-Holmes.
