Surfers Paradise: Woman dead and two others in hospital after suspected mass drug overdose on popular tourist strip

A woman is dead and two others have been rushed to hospital after a suspected mass drug overdose in an apartment in one of Australia’s most popular tourist destinations.

Police and paramedics were called to an apartment on the Esplanade in Surfers Paradise on the Gold Coast about 11.30pm on Friday evening in response to an emergency call reporting patients were unconscious and not breathing.

A 40-year-old woman died at the scene.

Two other women were rushed to Gold Coast University Hospital.

One is in critical condition, the other in serious condition.

Four other people were assessed by paramedics but did not require hospital treatment.

The group is believed to have taken a cocktail of drugs including ketamine and GHB or fantasy, the group reported Courier mail.

The police will prepare a report for the coroner.
