Son Heung-min was withdrawn in the first half of Tottenham’s crucial Champions League encounter in Marseille.

The South Korean was forced to leave after he appeared unstable after being hit on the head by Chancel Mbemba.

Tottenham’s first-half woes were compounded by a goal from Mbemba deep in time which was added largely due to Son’s injury.

In response to Son’s resignation, supporters expressed concern for the South Korean, while also expressing their dismay at Antonio Conte’s replacement choice.

‘That looked mean to Son. Hope he’s okay. The World Cup is in a few weeks, I’m sure he would be devastated if he missed it,” one person wrote.

“Son is hurt what?” another dramatically noted.

Another pointed to Tottenham’s current injury woes and tried to understand its impact by comparing it to Arsenal.

“Spurs have now injured Kulusevksi, Richarlison, Son,” they wrote. “That equates to an injury to Saka, Martinelli and Odegaard.”

Others tried to criticize Antonio Conte and his substitutions after he replaced Son with Yves Bissouma, a defensive midfielder.

‘Honestly, Spurs are so scared to watch, son get injured and you bring in a defensive midfielder? Attacking Kane up there? What’s the point of playing football,” they wrote.

“Son gets injured and Conte won’t lure another striker crazy,” commented another.

Another user wrote that the current situation reminded them of the club’s difficulties under Jose Mourinho.

Reminds me of the time when Son & Kane got injured under Mourinho. Just like the rest of the team doesn’t know how to play football,” they wrote.

Another, perhaps from a more extreme wing of the Tottenham supporter, reaffirmed their wish for Conte to leave the club.

Chancel Mbemba – who had been involved in Son’s injury – grabbed the goal at the end of the first half

“The funny thing is that everyone will still defend Conte, saying we had injuries, Son was injured, the goal disallowed against Sporting and Conte was not on the sidelines,” they wrote.

“He has to go damn it, stop making excuses.”

Existentialism around Tottenham eased somewhat in the second half when Conte’s side came back into play via a header from Clement Lenglet.

They must avoid defeat in France to secure their way into the last 16.
