Superstar getaway that once hosted Nicole Kidman and Tom Cruise listed for eye-watering $40million

A stunning Sydney mansion where Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman once lived during their failed marriage is for sale.

In 2000, the famous Hollywood stars were guests of director Baz Luhrmann, who previously owned the enormous estate.

The property is now for sale for the whopping asking price of $40 million.

Set in lush grounds in the heart of Darlinghurst, also known as Iona, this beautifully maintained Italianate estate features seven bedrooms and seven bathrooms.

Luhrmann and his wife Catherine Martin rented the property in the late 1990s and used it as a “home/office” for their company Bazmark.

The couple eventually bought the film in 2006 for $10 million, after making the blockbuster Strictly Ballroom (1992) and the Nicole Kidman hit Moulin Rouge (2001).

Kidman and Cruise reportedly hosted a party at the Bazmark to celebrate the completion of Moulin Rouge, not long before the Hollywood couple split in 2001.

After moving to New York, production designer Martin (59) and Luhrmann (61) sold Iona in 2016 for $16 million to its current owners, stockbroker Tim Eustace and his partner Salvador Panui.

This 2,716 square metre heritage building is known as one of Sydney’s largest mansions. Completed in 1888, it was once a private hospital.

Situated in a secluded, tree-lined part of Sydney’s bustling Darlinghurst district, just 2km from the CBD, this beautiful property is a delightful blend of luxury and old-world design.

Features include ornate iron lace, stained glass windows and Victorian tile panels.

Catherine Martin designed the decorative wallpaper that preserves the charm of the 19th century house.

The building has two floors and includes a private lounge, a cellar and a billiard room with a chandelier, a statue and a fireplace.

There is also a sitting room, a large kitchen, a utility room and a private dining room.

The master bedroom occupies an entire corner of the upper floor and has a large dressing room and access to a large veranda.

Other highlights include a ‘children’s room’, a library and a private apartment.

The four-bedroom, two-bathroom house was sold through Amir Prestige, with the estate agency using its beautiful seaside location as a selling point.

Renovated in the 1960s and located just steps from the pristine sands of Miami Beach, the home exudes a nostalgic charm.

The couple moved into the cabin when they relocated from a larger home on the glitzy strip to this neighborhood after moving to the neighborhood in 2020.

In a recent interview with The Australian’s Wish magazine, Catherine opened up about her long-distance relationship with her husband.

The Academy Award-winning costume designer said the couple spoke frequently on the phone while he was in New York and she stayed at the Gold Coast cabin.
