Supermarket worker fighting for life after customer allegedly shoves him to the ground next to the self-service checkouts and makes off with stolen shopping

A supermarket worker is fighting for his life after being pushed to the ground and hitting his head next to the self-service checkouts.

The 64-year-old was working at Sydney’s Blacktown store on Sunday when he was attacked about 6.30pm.

The man who allegedly pushed him then fled the store with stolen goods and boarded a train at Schofields train station.

The worker was treated at the scene by paramedics and taken to Westmead Hospital where his condition deteriorated. He is now in critical condition.

A 25-year-old man was arrested at a house in Scholfields at around 1.30pm on Monday. He was charged with recklessly causing grievous bodily harm and two counts of theft.

He was refused bail to appear at Blacktown Local Court on Tuesday.
