Superman star David Corenswet films scene in Cleveland in which authorities detain the Man of Steel … as production on summer blockbuster continues in Ohio

David Corenswet was pictured in Cleveland on Wednesday while filming James Gunn’s upcoming Superman film, in a sequence that saw the Man of Steel being apprehended by authorities.

The 30-year-old actor was pictured in his full Superman outfit in a scene where soldiers and a character in a black bodysuit held Superman to the ground and tied him up while they arrested him.

He was pictured alongside actress María Gabriela de Faría, 31, who plays The Engineer in the film.

The actress, 31, had her hair in braids and wore a black bodysuit as she stood in front of a handcuffed Superman, flanked by several military officials in camouflage fatigues.

A native of Philadelphia, Corenswet has been busy producing the reboot of the famed DC superhero for filmmaker Gunn, replacing actor Henry Cavill in the role.

Corenswet, who has appeared in the Netflix shows Hollywood and The Politician, was filmed earlier this week in Ohio opposite Edi Gathegi, 45, who plays Mister Terrific in the film.

Gunn took to social media on May 6 with a first look to fans featuring Corenswet in the updated Superman costume.

The image showed Corenswet donning the character’s signature red boots, while a colorful explosion could be seen in the background.

Gunn captioned the post: “Get ready. #Superman,” adding that the film will hit theaters on July 11, 2025.

The film, which hits theaters next summer, features a cast that includes Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Wendell Pierce as Perry White and Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher.

Gunn Past said on social media that the film will focus on “an earlier part of Superman’s life.”

Gunn confirmed on his X/Twitter account in June 2023 that rumors of Corenswet and Brosnahan playing the respective roles of Clark Kent and Lois Lane were “accurate.”

He added: “They are not only great actors, but also great people.”

Gunn told Variety in April 2023 that he was aiming for certain undiscovered character traits for his incarnation of the famous character.

“The next Superman has to be someone who has all the humanity that Superman has, but he’s also an alien,” Gunn told the outlet. “It has to be someone who has the kindness and compassion that Superman has and someone you want to give a hug to.”

Corenswet follows in the footsteps of a number of well-known names to take on the role of the comic hero, such as the late Kirk Alyn, George Reeves and Christopher Reeve, as well as Brandon Routh and Cavill.
