Super Bowl MVP Nick Foles retires from football after 11 seasons in the NFL

Former Super Bowl MVP Nick Foles is retiring from the NFL after an 11-year career.

Foles shared the news on his social media on Thursday, marking his first time off the bench since his 2012 draft last season.

Foles played for six teams and is best known for leading the Philadelphia Eagles to a Super Bowl victory in 2018. In recent weeks, he has been the team’s starting pitcher, replacing the injured Carson Wentz.

“After much thought and prayer, I have decided to retire from the NFL,” Foles said on social media. “It has been an incredible 11-year journey filled with unforgettable moments and amazing people.”

“From being drafted by the Eagles to winning the Super Bowl, every step of the way has been a blessing. I look forward to spending more time with my family and embracing the next chapter of my life. Thank you to all of my teammates, coaches, staff and fans for your unwavering support. I am eternally grateful,” Foles continued.

Foles began his NFL career as a backup to Michael Vick, but eventually took over as the Eagles’ starting quarterback for his first two seasons before becoming the outright starter in 2014.

After a season with the Rams and Chiefs, Foles returned to the Eagles as a backup, where he had his most legendary stint as Wentz’s replacement.

Foles began the following season as the team’s starter, but was replaced in Week 3 by a fully healthy Wentz.

After leading Philadelphia to the Super Bowl, Foles wanted to prove he could be the undisputed No. 1 quarterback for another team and signed with the Jaguars.

Foles never really got that chance. He played one season with Jacksonville, two with Chicago and his final season with Indianapolis.

After being cut by the Colts last May, he was not drafted by any team during the season due to injuries at the quarterback position.
