Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes insists his ankle is ‘definitely better’ after spraining it and says he’ll ‘push’ it to face the Eagles in the Super Bowl this week

Those who fear for the health of Patrick Mahomes and his ankle should rest easy knowing that the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback is on the mend heading into Super Bowl Sunday.

After suffering a sprain in the AFC divisional round against the Jacksonville Jaguars, Mahomes has made a quick recovery: He played in the AFC Championship game against the Cincinnati Bengals and is set to play this weekend as well.

“It’s definitely better,” Mahomes said Monday, the first media day of the week on Super Bowl opening night.

“You never know exactly until you get to the game, obviously, but he’s definitely in a better position than he is right now before the last game.”

“We’ll keep pushing but not doing too much because you don’t want to have any hiccups, but at least I haven’t had any since the game.”

Mahomes struggled against the Jaguars, but shined the following week against Cincinnati

Mahomes was forced to sit out the game against the Jaguars for a single series while the team awaited the results of the scans in the locker room.

He returned to the game and finished the day completing 22 of 30 passes for 195 yards and two touchdown passes.

Mahomes lacked his typical magic and mobility in the pocket that game, and it seemed to carry over into the next one against the Bengals as well.

But that was much more manageable: Mahomes completed 29 of 43 passes for 326 yards and two touchdowns in a win over Cincinnati.

Now, Mahomes faces one of the toughest defenses he’s played all year in the Philadelphia Eagles, who led the league in sacks and finished second in yards allowed and third in margin of turnovers.

Not only that, but they’re also led by a promising young quarterback in Jalen Hurts, who commanded the third-best offense in the regular season, just two spots behind the Chiefs.

Super Bowl LVII kicks off this Sunday night at 6:30 pm EST on Fox live from State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.
