Super Bowl champion attacks radio host on air over ‘private’ question: ‘I totally deny being in the sauna’

Former New York Giants and Philadelphia Eagles punter Sean Landeta called radio host Spike Eskin after asking him a private question about his playing days.

Before the NFL playoffs, Eskin called Landeta on 94 WIP in Philadelphia to ask the bizarre question about shaving his genitals in front of his teammates in the sauna.

The locker room story was previously revealed by former Eagles wide receiver Freddie Mitchell, who played with Landeta in his first two NFL seasons.

When Eskin called Landeta on the program, the conversation quickly turned awkward as the ex-punter didn’t appreciate the humor behind the story.

“Freddie Mitchell was on the morning show today and he said that you and Jon Ritchie were often in the sauna together, but Mitchell said – how do I put this – that you would take care of your lower abdomen in the sauna,” Eskin said.

“You want to call me during primetime radio in Philadelphia and talk to me about something like that,” Landeta replied, his tone growing increasingly angry. ‘Are you kidding me? I know this is TMZ Radio and I like Freddie, you know a good teammate and all that. But what he said was absolutely untrue.

“I categorically deny that I was in the sauna with Jon Ritchie,” he added. “That never happened.”

“Could there have been a time when I was alone and maybe needed to shave a little? Okay, maybe that’s something that happens privately in a locker room, and there’s a saying that should go in the NFL: “What you see here or what you say here stays here and never leaves here.”

“Obviously Mr. Freddie wanted some people to say, ‘Oh, wow’… but I’m disappointed in Mr. Mitchell. I’ll have to talk to him about that.’

Landeta’s berating didn’t stop there as he continued to call out the hosts, claiming they were “just having some fun.”

“One man embarrasses another man,” Landeta said. ‘I understand what I’m dealing with. I think now that the Eagles have a playoff game coming up, they wouldn’t be talking about guys in saunas anymore.”

Mitchell’s career is best remembered for catching a fourth-and-26 pass from Donovan McNabb to save Philadelphia’s 2003 season and beat the Green Bay Packers in the playoffs.

The win gave the Birds an NFC Championship game appearance.

On the other hand, Landeta played 22 seasons in the NFL, including nine with the Giants, where he won two Super Bowl titles in 1986 and 1990.

The gambler retired in 2005 after a Super Bowl appearance with the Eagles at the age of 43.
