Sunrise star Mark Beretta has spoken out about Matt Shirvington taking over David ‘Kochie’ Koch’s co-hosting job on Sunrise despite being on the show for over 20 years.
Mark, 56, who is the sports presenter on the popular breakfast show, said he “loves what he does too much” to take on the top job himself.
Kochie revealed he would be leaving Sunrise last Monday after 21 years.
His last show is on Friday and Matt, 44, will take over the reins as Sunrise co-host next Monday alongside Natalie Barr, 55.

‘I love sport, I love the people, it’s my passion – I get to work with my passion,’ explains Mark.
He said he enjoys covering some of the biggest sporting events in the world for the show, including the Olympics.
“And you know, it’s a different life when you sit in that chair,” he said.

He added about Matt: “I’m really happy, I’m really happy for Shirvo because obviously I’ve known him for a very, very long time and he’s a lovely guy and to have him come in and take on that role , personally I could ‘I can’t think of anyone better.’
Mark has been Sunrise’s sports presenter since 2004, having previously co-hosted the show for two years.
It comes after Mark hit back at claims that David ‘Kochie’ Koch, 67, was ‘forced’ out of his Sunrise hosting gig because ‘his time was coming to an end’.
He added about Matt: “I’m really happy, I’m really happy for Shirvo because obviously I’ve known him for a very, very long time and he’s a lovely guy and to have him come in and take on that role , personally I could ‘I can’t think of anyone better’
The sports reporter, 56, told Yahoo Lifestyle earlier this week that the rumors were “absolute BS.”
Over the weekend, The Daily Telegraph reported that Kochie’s time on the top-rated breakfast show was “coming to an end.”
“He signed a contract knowing there was a clause in it that said he would leave the Sunrise chair by June at the latest, so he knew his time was coming to an end,” an insider reportedly told the publication.

Shirvington, 44, said he had “mixed feelings” about the new gig as he sat on the couch with Barr and Koch for the announcement.
‘Just fantastic. Discouraged. So excited. Cheerful. I cannot tell you what honor and privilege this is, especially Kochie. A huge job. A huge job. And an exciting job,” he said.
Both Kochie and Barr said they were delighted with the choice.
“What we always do is if you’re a member of the family, you remain a member of the family, aren’t you. And you will get through it. And you’ve been fantastic to fill in and every Friday it’s been sensational. You’re going to be sensational. You’re going to be a perfect fit,” Koch said.
“I loved every minute of my time at Sunrise,” Koch said on the air about his firing.
“I’ve been privileged to have so many adventures, meet so many incredible people, and have so many moments of history in the making.”
Kerry Stokes, chairman of Seven West Media, said: ‘I will personally miss David as he is a thorough professional and a wonderful human being, especially in the way he has mentored so many Seven people.’
Seven West Media Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer James Warburton added in a statement: “All good things must come to an end, and I admire and respect his decision to leave Sunrise while he is at the top of his game.”
