  • He had covered the bus accident in the Hunter Valle

A Sunrise presenter has taken a cheeky swipe at embattled presenter Matt Doran after he famously went missing on a work assignment.

Weekend presenter Sally Bowrey made the comment during a segment with Monique Wright shortly after Doran presented a segment about the new Channel Seven headquarters on Sunday morning.

“I wonder if Matt will be back for the last 20 minutes of the program,” Wright asked.

Bowery joked back saying, “I always wonder if Matt will come back,” she replied with a laugh.

The loaded comment comes after Doran sparked a frantic police investigation after he disappeared while on a work assignment in the Hunter Valley in June.

Channel Seven TV presenter Matt Doran sparked a frantic police investigation after he disappeared while on a work assignment.

The network sent the high-profile Sydney journalist to the Hunter Valley on Monday to report on the horror bus crash that claimed the lives of 10 wedding guests in Greta over the long weekend.

But the star reporter failed to show up for his spot on Sunrise on Tuesday morning, with insiders saying his producer then went looking for him at his hotel in Singleton – only to knock on his room door went unanswered.

The star reporter had been sent to cover the wedding bus crash that killed 10 people, but he failed to show up for his 5:30am shift on June 13.

Insiders said that when producers went to find Doran at his hotel in Singleton, he knocked on his door when there was no answer.

The high-profile crime reporter was last seen at a local soccer field on Monday afternoon speaking to members of the Singleton community.

“He seemed distracted when he was interviewing. He didn’t want to be there,” the source told Daily Mail Australia.

Previously, local residents had seen Doran leave the home of newly married couple Mitchell Gaffney and Maddy Edsell, whose marriage was at the center of the tragedy.

When the reporter failed to answer calls, texts and emails ahead of his scheduled appearance on Tuesday’s Sunrise, a producer went to check his hotel room.

Concerned colleagues contacted the police, who issued a missing person alert.

Doran was eventually found in a nearby cafe and was quickly replaced by his colleague Liam Tapper on the air.

NSW Police told the Daily Mail Australia: ‘Earlier today, Port Stephens Hunter Police District officers received a notice of welfare concern for a 40-year-old man.

Doran, 40, was seen running through the depths of the Martin Place studio while pausing to look into people’s lockers and the women’s changing rooms during a segment on Monday

Officers launched an investigation and found a man a short time later. There is no further police action.’

It is understood that Doran’s wife Kendall Bora, an executive producer of Nine’s Today, abruptly left work to go to the area to find her husband.

The loaded comment comes after Doran sparked a frantic police search after he disappeared while on a work assignment in the Hunter Valley in June.

Insiders say several factors may have contributed to his troubling behavior, one of which suggests Doran may have been struggling with the confrontational nature of the bus crash tragedy.

Doran took a few weeks of personal leave after disappearing in the Hunter Valley and reportedly spent time at home “putting his health first.”

He was replaced by his colleague Michael Usher on Weekend Sunrise.

Doran, who began his career as a police reporter at the Herald Sun, joined Seven in 2017 after nearly eight years in the Network Ten newsroom.

Two years later, he was promoted to his current role as co-host of Weekend Sunrise, alongside Monique Wright, after intermittently replacing weekday host David Koch.
