Sunrise star Sam Mac announces shock new career change after welcoming his second child: ‘it really took me by surprise!’

Sunrise star Sam Mac has announced a shock career change.

The 42-year-old TV weatherman has announced that he has become a published author.

On Tuesday’s episode of Channel Seven’s The Morning Show, Sam spoke to Larry Emdur and Kylie Gillies about his foray into writing children’s books.

The television presenter wrote a heartwarming picture book entitled ‘Plotseling Eén’, a dedication to his first daughter Margot, aged two.

“When Margot turned one, you wanted to celebrate that, and all those little moments that happen in that first year, so I wrote down some thoughts,” Sam told the hosts.

‘(I was on a) long flight to Perth…(and) I thought, “Oh, maybe this could be a poem.” So a few days later I refined it and posted it with a video to go with the words.’

The video with Sam’s moving poem had already been viewed more than a million times in one night.

“It really took me by surprise and (publisher) Penguin got in touch with us and said, ‘We think this is a universal experience. Everyone is excited about their little ones and those first milestones. Let’s make a picture book out of it,'” the Sunrise star explained.

“It’s a girl. Again,” he wrote in his caption.

‘We are so excited to welcome Mabel August McMillan into the world (born last night 14/8/24) It is my destiny to be surrounded by beautiful women! Such a contrast to my high school years.

‘I’ll share more details soon, but Bec was our warrior once again, Mabel was lovely and plump and relaxed and now we’re taking a break together before Hurricane Margot passes through to meet her little sister tonight.’
