Sunrise star Katie Brown has ‘set her eyes on Mark Beretta’s sports presenter job’ – just days after he inked new deal with Seven

Rising Sunrise star Katie Brown is set to take over the role of sports presenter on the breakfast show in 2025.

The 32-year-old journalist is expected to call out breakfast show veteran Mark Beretta, who has worked with the Channel Seven program on and off since 2000.

According to an insider, Katie is being guided to move into the sports broadcaster’s role after his new two-year contract expires, reported women’s Day.

“Katie is just a country boy who appeals to all audiences because of her no-nonsense style,” they told the publication on Monday.

They went on to say that “a few people behind the scenes have quietly expressed that Mark’s flashy lifestyle may not always resonate with viewers.”

“The irony of it all is that Beretta is one of Katie’s biggest supporters and has almost been a mentor to her,” she added.

Mark, 57, has only just signed a new contract to stay at Sunrise for another two years, with some raising eyebrows at the short duration of the deal.

Meanwhile, Katie, who is currently standing in for weatherman Sam Mac while he is on paternity leave, shocked viewers in May when she sat in Mark’s seat for the first time.

The Sunrise panel got a shock when Mark flew to Brisbane for a few days for a charity event and Katie filled in for him.

“I got to sit with the big kids today and even got to wear my favorite color,” she wrote on Instagram at the time and shared a number of photos.

She later posted on Instagram Stories to show off her preparation for the show.

‘Happy Monday! Filling in for Beretts at the station today,” she wrote, previewing the morning script.

She was showered with praise for taking on the role, with even Mark approving his young protégé’s efforts.

‘Well done KB!’ Mark captioned the photos.

“What a weapon,” Seven cricketer Holly Ferling added under the post.
