Sunrise star Edwina Bartholomew’s interview with Niall Horan turns awkward

Edwina Bartholomew’s wholesome interview with singer Niall Horan took a turn on Friday when a former Sunrise colleague made a surprise appearance.

The 39-year-old breakfast show reporter sat down to chat with the former One Direction member, 29, ahead of his visit to Australia next year.

But things took a surprising turn when Edwina reflected on Niall’s previous appearance on Sunrise, where he briefly hosted the show in 2019 – alongside Natalie Barr and ex-host Samantha Armytage.

In the old footage, Niall sat next to Samantha before throwing to Natalie for the news update.

Talking to Edwina again, the Slow Hands singer spoke about his love for Australia and how sweet Samantha and Natalie were during his visit to Sunrise.

‘I love Australia. It’s my favorite place on earth,” he told Edwina during the recent interview.

“And that day we hosted Sunrise was so good. It was such a different experience and the laughs were so good. Everyone was so good to me.’

Rumors continue to circulate that Samantha was involved in a feud with her former co-stars.

In 2021, it was revealed that Sam is not following her former Sunrise co-hosts, including David Koch and Natalie Barr, amid rumors of a strained relationship on set when she was on the show.

Sam gave a very vague answer when grilled on the subject by radio host Kyle Sandilands during a discussion on her own Something To Talk About podcast in March 2021.

The sassy KIIS FM star questioned Sam, “I read you unfollowed Kochie and Nat! Did you unfollow these people?’

Through awkward laughter, Sam replied, “I don’t think I’ve undone…” before fading away and adding, “I don’t think anyone in there is following anyone.”

Despite being colleagues for years, neither Kochie nor Natalie are among the 1.6k people Sam follows.

The pair, who are currently co-hosting Sunrise since Sam’s departure two years ago, are still happily following her around.

In 2021, Samantha was quick to address Natalie’s promotion to co-host following her departure from the show.

She criticized Natalie on Twitter at the time for continuing to speak about her to the press three months after taking over as anchor of Seven’s breakfast show.

‘Look, I’m out. Nat always wanted the job… and she finally got it. She should just go ahead and enjoy it – and forget about me (even though I’m unforgettable),’ she wrote.

Meanwhile, Kochie announced his resignation from the breakfast show on Monday.

“I’ve loved every minute of it and I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved here over the last 21 years,” Kochie told viewers.

“I started here before Facebook, before Instagram, before Twitter and iPhones. That’s how old I am.

“I’ve been privileged to have so many great adventures, to meet so many different people and to have so many moments of history in the making.”

The host has been a familiar face on Australian television screens since 2002 when he started at the Sunrise agency.

Kochie has been hosting Sunrise with Natalie since 2022, following the departure of his former co-host Samantha after nearly 10 years.
