Sunrise star David ‘Kochie’ Koch viciously lashes out at TV rival Karl Stefanovic after THAT shocking cocaine joke the Today host made about him in the Logies
Karl Stefanovic came under fire last month after making a bizarre joke about cocaine and his long-running breakfast TV rival David ‘Kochie’ Koch at the 2023 Logie Awards.
And Kochie hit back at the Today show host when he returned to Sunrise and The Morning Show on Thursday to announce his new role as economics director at Compare the Market.
While Kochie was singing the praises of Logies host Sam Pang, he said he wasn’t impressed with Karl’s ad-libbed gag.
“He (Sam) did such a great job and the jokes were really good. Sam is really smart because he never makes them mean or personal or anything,” he told Matt Doran and Kylie Gillies.
‘It was just a lovely evening. A little different from Karl’s sense of humour.’

Karl’s joke about cocaine in the Logies left the audience – and Kochie himself – more baffled than entertained.
He made the joke after Kochie confessed his love for the third season of the Stan series Bump during a presentation on stage.
Karl, 48, seized the moment and took a comedic leap by playing with the ambiguity of “bump,” a term popularly associated with cocaine.
And Kochie hit back at the Today show host as he returned to Sunrise on Thursday to announce his new role as economics director at Compare the Market
“Just wanted to check something… I’m pretty sure before I heard Kochie say he likes Bumps… season three. Did someone misunderstand that? Because I’m pretty sure I did.”
“Anyway, that’s the headlines tomorrow morning…” Karl remarked, hoping for a laugh.
However, his risky attempt at humor seemed to miss the mark, with onlookers not reacting as he had hoped.

A camera cutting to a stunned Kochie only added to the chilling moment.
Host Pang couldn’t resist making a joke about Karl’s joke bombing later in the show, saying, “I don’t mean to say Karl’s joke about Kochie sank, but OceanGate offers expeditions to visit it.”
