Where’s Shirvo? Sunrise host Matt Shirvington goes ‘missing’ during breakfast show’s first week back on air

Sunrise viewers are left baffled by the whereabouts of co-host Matt Shirvington after he failed to appear on the breakfast show last week.

The show returned to regular programming last Monday, with co-host Natalie Barr on the desk alongside news anchor Edwina Bartholomew and sports reporter Mark Beretta.

But Shirvo was noticeably absent from Brekky Central, with Matt Doran coming on for the former Olympic athlete.

Fans of the program took to social media to question Shirvo’s return.

“Where was Shirvo?” asked one viewer, while another similarly wrote: “Did I miss something?” Where’s Shervo!!’

Channel Seven has since confirmed that Shrivo will be back on Sunrise on Wednesday morning after enjoying his holiday and being commissioned on the show.

Meanwhile, some fans were happy to see a new face in Shirvo’s place, with many suggesting Matt Doran would take his place for good.

“Great to see Matt Doran back on the station,” said one.

“Please keep Matt on during the week. Like a breath of fresh air,” another added.

One user wrote: ‘Shirvo is a nice guy but Matt is a much better presenter. More spontaneous, more articulate and a great interview and reporter!’

In November, Shivo’s shocking career move was revealed on Channel Seven.

The television host has filmed scenes for a guest role on the long-running drama Home and Away.

Details about Shirvington’s appearance on the show have been kept under wraps, but 7News reports that the celebrity will “play himself” on the hit soap.

The Shirvington episode will air sometime this year and was filmed in Palm Beach on Sydney’s Northern Beaches.

One of the standout stars was Ray Meagher, who plays Alf Stewart.

“As a kid growing up on Home and Away, it was all a bit surreal being in Summer Bay with Alf Stewart,” Shirvington told Seven.

‘What a nice experience. The entire cast and crew were so welcoming and generous with acting tips and advice for this novice.

“I guess this will be one of those things my kids will never let me live through!”

Shirvington’s appearance on the beloved soap adds to a growing list of Sunrise stars who have tried their acting skills on the show.

In 2007, former Sunrise presenter David ‘Kochie’ Koch enjoyed a two-line cameo on the show, with the 67-year-old TV veteran mingling in the bar at Summer Bay surf club.

Koch is seen holding a stump and saying “yeah, sure.”

And in 2021, Sunrise weatherman Sam Mac appeared as a ‘VIP guest’ at a Summer Bay soiree.

Shirvington Rose rose to fame as a marathon sprinter at the 1998 Commonwealth Games in Malaysia and later competed in the 2000 Sydney Olympics.

In June, Sunrise athletics star turned TV presenter Shirvington was crowned David Koch’s successor after a three-year plan to prepare him for the top job.

The official announcement was made during the breakfast show, four days before Koch filmed his final show.

The father-of-three shares daughters Sienna, 17, Winnie, 15, and son Lincoln, five, with wife Jessica, who he married after they met when they were just 17 years old.
