Sunrise host Matt Shirvington reveals his secret health condition: ‘It gets worse when I exercise’

Matt “Shirvo” Shirvington revealed details Tuesday of a secret health condition he’s been battling for years.

The Sunrise presenter, 44, was speaking to a paramedic about how asthma sufferers can stay safe during thunderstorm season when he made the admission.

‘I have sports asthma, so when I exercise it gets worse. Especially in the cold. Are you going to get tested for that,” he said.

“That’s a good warning to so many people,” co-host Natalie Barr added.

Sports-induced asthma is a long-term problem that some athletes experience during exercise, making it difficult to breathe.

The official announcement was made during the breakfast show, four days before Koch, 67, filmed his final show.

Shirvington said he felt “mixed emotions” about the new gig as he sat on the bench with Barr and Koch for the announcement.

‘Just fantastic. Discouraged. So excited. Cheerful. I can’t tell you what an honor and privilege this is, especially Kochie. A huge job and an exciting job,” he said.
