Sunrise host David Koch goes rogue after his shock departure from the breakfast show, giving away thousands of the network’s money
David Koch shocked Sunrise viewers Monday morning when he announced he was leaving the show after 21 years on the air.
And moments later, the 67-year-old TV host went “rogue” during the breakfast show’s Bill Barrel segment, offering five times as much money as it was supposed to.
Shortly after he gave his two-week notice on air, a woman called during the cash giveaway segment asking for just $520, which Kochie turned into $3,000.
Winning Queensland viewer Melanie Turner admitted she only needed just over $500 for bill support as her “car registration is due today.”
Kochie and co-host Natalie Barr told Turner they were “being generous” before giving her $1,500 instead — but the media stalwart took it one step further.

“Mel, I only have two weeks to go. I’m going rogue. Would go [give] $3,000 for you,” he said.
“I’m going rogue every day for the next two weeks.”
Kochie’s ‘sudden’ tearful departure from the Channel Seven breakfast show after two decades left viewers in shock.

Just months after the iconic media personality re-signed with the network, fans were sure Kochie would grace their televisions for “two more years.”
But it seems there’s more to the TV presenter’s two-year deal with big boss Kerry Stokes, after he revealed he’s moving away from the cameras, but not Seven.
Appearing on Melbourne’s 3AW on Monday, Kochie said: “I wanted to go at the end of last year and the team asked if I could stay for another six months.”
He went on to say that after being in front of the cameras for six months, he was signed to “do big financial things” with Network Seven for the remaining 18 months of his contract.
