A terrified driver confronted by a man standing in the middle of a dark road may have avoided a violent carjacking.
Creepy dashcam footage posted to Facebook shows a mysterious figure on Pinelands Road in the southern Brisbane suburb of Sunnybank Hills just after midnight on Saturday.
As the car slows down and tries to swerve, the man continues to walk in front of its path and appears to try to block it.
The driver then makes a quick U-turn and begins to rush across the road.
‘So scary!! My other half was also in the car,” the driver wrote.
‘Good to get home safely!! Thank God.’

Some commentators suspect it was an attempted carjacking.
“They make you stop and then steal your car… there’s a lot going on in the area unfortunately, stay safe,” one person said.
Another wrote: “I’m waiting for you to slow down and get the car,” one person wrote.
One motorist also posted a separate video of a man running in front of his car onto the same road.
“I didn’t slow down, he got scared and ran away,” the driver noted.
Another driver had an even more disturbing story.
“I also ran into a man at the 7-11 gas station on my way home after midnight yesterday,” the person wrote.
‘We stopped at the traffic light and waited for the light to the right.
‘The man suddenly rushed to open our door.

Queensland is in the grip of a wave of youth crime, with car thefts, knife crime and violent home burglaries on the rise.
The wave forced the state government to make bail breaches a criminal offense for young people – after ditching the offense in 2015 and since rejecting an attempt to reinstate it.
The maximum penalties for stolen cars and night crimes were also increased, as well as higher penalties for those who brag about their crimes on social media.
