Young mum walking with her baby viciously mauled by two dogs just 24 hours after they attacked an elderly woman – with locals asking why they weren’t seized earlier
Furious residents of a Melbourne suburb are questioning why it took two barbaric attacks on women just a day apart for the aggressive dogs they had complained about on multiple occasions to finally be rounded up.
On Friday afternoon, a new mother pushing her baby in a stroller to pick up her older child from school was brutally mauled by two dogs in Withers Close, Sunbury, 40 kilometres northwest of Melbourne’s CBD.
Shockingly, the same dogs were still running free after attacking a 71-year-old woman the day before, throwing her to the ground and biting her on the face, legs and back.
The elderly woman was rescued by two men who pulled the dogs off her, but they too were injured by the animals, police said.
Neighbor Mick Jackson saw the attack on the 35-year-old mother and said: ‘She was bleeding from her head, her ears, her nose.
“I’m sorry to say this, but she looked like an attacked piece of meat.”
The owner of the dogs said 7News that she heard the mother screaming from her house.
“I was shocked as hell, but I just ran over and put my body over the woman. I’m just so, so happy that the baby was OK,” she said.

The dogs’ owner said: ‘It has broken my heart and I feel humiliated. I am ashamed.’
However, according to neighbors, this was unavoidable, as the dogs kept escaping from their backyard and had been terrorizing them for months.
“They’ve been reported several times,” Mr. Jackson said. “They scare the hell out of you.”
At least five neighbours said they complained to Hume Town Council about the dogs, but nothing was ever done about it.
At one point, a neighbor was told that he had to restrain the dogs himself before the rangers would come and investigate.
Anna Jackson, another local resident, said the incidents on Thursday and Friday were not the first time the dogs had bitten someone.
“About two or three months ago… the dogs were outside and Christopher tried to push him away, but the dog came at him and bit him on his left leg,” she said.
When Hume Town Council was asked why the dogs had not been removed from the site after the first attack, one councillor said there was a ‘procedure’ that had to be followed.
“You can’t just go onto a property and take a dog. That’s the problem, even if he attacks you. You have to go through a process,” said Councilman Jack Medcraft.
The dogs were eventually taken and euthanized on Saturday.
The two women they attacked are still in hospital, both having undergone surgery for their injuries.
“I’m really praying for the woman and I hope she can forgive me,” the dogs’ owner said.
