Summary: Novel private cloud and AI tools for data-driven healthcare

Hitachi Vantara said Monday that as part of its private cloud strategy, it can reduce friction between multiple vendors with a new private and hybrid cloud environment designed to upgrade hospitals’ IT backbones and better handle their data needs.

Meanwhile, the largest national healthcare system in the United States has also announced plans to drive cloud modernization across its medical centers, clinics, retirement homes and other advanced healthcare facilities through a new partnership with Infor.

And process automation company Qventus said it has added real-time visibility to perioperative and clinical care platforms, helping to increase operating room access by three to six cases per OR per month and automate clinicians’ tasks at the bedside after surgery.

VMware launches private, hybrid cloud

Hitachi promised to reduce costs and energy consumption for organizations by partnering with Broadcom, which acquired VMware in November, the company said in an announcement.

By combining automation and software-defined services with enterprise infrastructure, the new private hybrid cloud can help organizations modernize for greater data performance and scalability.

The platform deploys business- and mission-critical workloads with highly available mixed server-based virtualized storage – VMware vSAN – and external storage, Hitachi says. It removes multi-vendor friction by providing a single source of truth for systems, solutions and services.

“This not only addresses today’s data management and infrastructure modernization challenges, but it also aligns with organizations’ sustainability goals, making it an essential tool for businesses looking to thrive in the generative (artificial intelligence) era and beyond,” said Paul Turner, vice president of products for Broadcom’s VMware Cloud Foundation Division, in a statement.

Sanford Health Partners with Infor

With unified processes, Sioux Falls, South Dakota-based Sanford Health can break down silos and integrate core business functions, Infor, a leading provider of business cloud software, announced Monday a new partnership.

According to the company, streamlining workflows across departments and gaining real-time insights could free up work for Sanford Health caregivers.

“We look forward to supporting Sanford Health in achieving greater operational efficiencies and delivering exceptional healthcare services to the communities they serve,” said Steve Fanning, senior vice president of Infor, in a statement.

Last week, Infor also announced that it has selected Amazon Bedrock to build and scale embedded generative AI applications.

Qventus adds AI to operational platforms

AI-powered digital assistants can help doctors reduce the time they spend on administrative tasks, which Qventus estimates waste $13 billion annually.

To bridge the gap between data and action, the company added capabilities to analyze complex data in real time, predicting patient needs and recommending specific actions. These capabilities were originally developed in partnership with providers including Ardent Health, Allina Health, HonorHealth, Northwestern Medicine and others.

With operational support from AI, care teams can “perform at the peak of their capabilities,” Mudit Garg, the company’s CEO and co-founder, said in a statement.

Frontline workers who use the AI copilot in their inpatient platform to enhance bedside tasks can improve patient outcomes. Meanwhile, using an AI assistant in the company’s perioperative care platform can automate procedural parts of surgical and post-surgery coordination.

The new insights can help hospitals prevent canceled surgeries, reduce the manual burden on care teams and improve productivity.

“Fragmented surgical coordination is a critical clinical challenge for our healthcare partners,” Dr. David Atashroo, Qventus’ chief medical officer, said in the statement.

According to Kim Post, executive vice president and chief operations officer, it has “dramatically” reduced the administrative burden at HonorHealth.
