Suki received The Performer Award not only for her captivating performances on screen and on the catwalk as an actor and former model, but also as a musician who conquered an entirely new industry and embraced the power of reinvention.
The ELLE Style Awards returned in partnership with Tiffany and Co after a six-year break ahead of the upcoming London Fashion Week.
Guests help the glossy magazine highlight inspiring and creative designers, models and talent within the fashion industry.
It comes after Suki got candid about embracing self-love and the power of reinvention as part of a series of covers for the October issue of ELLE UK.
The Daisy Jones and The Six sensation talked about how she resisted the pressure to change her look during her early modeling days as she developed her sense of self.
“(I remember) an initial push to change myself a lot. If you were different, you’d sit down and be told you weren’t going to do any shows.
“I didn’t really believe, ‘This is the truth, I have to look like this to work.’ I didn’t believe I had to be half my body weight to succeed,” Suki explained.
‘I used style as a distraction, to prevent people from looking at my body in its pure form. And I feel like it worked.
“I was very loud with it, and in many cases I was able to go in there with a bravado and a sense of style that would distract people,” she continued.

Those years are so precious to me, all the invisible work I did, the tons of songs I wrote that just weren’t good enough, and the people I met along the way.”
But the road hasn’t always been easy for the singer in the music industry, as she explained: ”It felt like a huge delusion that someone would take me even remotely seriously as a musician, (but) I just believed in it and stuck with it . been working towards it for ten years.
“Obviously there was a lot of time where I felt all absorbed and thought, ‘Oh God, will I ever be seen as anything other than what I am right now?'”
On the power of charting your way in the sector, Suki said, “There is no blueprint for how to survive in this sector. There is room for who you are and what you want to contribute; you just have to make it for yourself.
Speaking of her rise to fame, the model said, “When I was younger, it was so deeply shocking; horrible. You don’t have to be in the public eye to have had an experience like this.
“I understand the levels of projection that are taking place. We’re all in this system that’s so hard to navigate as a woman, and I think we’re all just doing the best we can. I also inherently believe in the goodness of people, that we all struggle.
“We’re fighting this ridiculous battle of wanting to be a woman.”
