Shocking find inside man’s suitcase at major Australian airport

A Canadian man has been caught at an Australian airport allegedly trying to smuggle 15kg of methamphetamine into the country in his suitcase.

Australian Border Force (ABF) officers seized the 38-year-old’s luggage after he arrived at Sydney International Airport on July 31 from Vancouver, Canada.

A powdery substance was reportedly found in several vacuum-sealed bags wrapped in a bath towel. Tests showed it was methamphetamine.

The Australian Federal Police (AFP) arrested the man accused of importing a commercial quantity of a border-controlled drug.

He now faces the maximum penalty of life imprisonment.

AFP Detective Acting Chief Inspector Dom Stephenson said the quantity seized “could have accounted for around 150,000 individual hits”.

The Canadian man was refused bail at Downing Center Local Court on August 1 and was due to appear in the same court on Wednesday.
