Sugar Bowl CFP matchup is postponed after devastating NYE terrorist attack in New Orleans
According to the news station, the Sugar Bowl is being postponed for 24 hours after a terrorist attack in New Orleans’ French Quarter WDSU.
The game, a College Football Playoff quarterfinal between No. 2 Georgia and No. 7 Notre Dame, won’t be played until Thursday after initially being scheduled for New Year’s Day at 8:45 p.m. ET.
Law enforcement officials – including the FBI – are investigating the massive crash as a terrorist attack after 10 people were killed and at least 30 injured in the early morning hours of Wednesday.
This comes after initial reports from the New Orleans Police Department indicated the match would go ahead as planned.
The attack comes weeks before the city is set to host Super Bowl LIX and has heightened security fears ahead of that event.
Authorities shut down the Caesars Superdome to sweep it for safety reasons, with the attack occurring about ten blocks from the stadium at the intersection of Bourbon Street and Canal Street.
