Fast food restaurant Subway has announced that as many as ten thousand superfans have signed up to legally change their first name to “Subway” to receive free sandwiches for life.

Subway announced the overwhelming response to the Name Change Challenge on Tuesday, revealing that thousands of Subway superfans had signed up in just 96 hours. A lucky winner will be announced later this month.

The selected person will not only receive Subway sandwiches for life, but will also be reimbursed for legal and processing costs for the name change.

First announced on July 26, the promotion ran from August 1 through August 4. It follows the debut of the restaurant’s first-ever fresh-cut meat offerings in restaurants across the United States, as well as a reboot of the rest of the menu.

The menu features a collection of new delicacies for their Subway Series menu.

Subway said this is the company’s third year on their “multi-year transformation journey.” In 2021, the retailer thoroughly overhauled its ingredient pantry and in 2022 unveiled its Subway lineup.

Their latest update has been described as Subway’s “most complex” and $80 million investment, which includes bringing meat slicers to more than 20,000 U.S. restaurants over the course of nine months to prepare for this summer’s debut.

For the past year, Subway’s culinary team has been working on creating recipes for its Deli Hero subs, including Titan Turkey (#15), Grand Slam Ham (#99), Garlic Roast Beef (#17), and The Beast (# 30). also piled high with double cheese.

The company founded in 1965 by then 17-year-old Fred DeLuca. Subway Inc. is still owned and operated by the DeLuca family.

Reuters reported last week that the fast-food chain could get as much as $9 billion and each sale would be completed by the end of August, the news outlet reported.
