Stunning seven-bedroom California home designed by architect Frank Lloyd Wright for sale for $4.25 million

One of Frank Lloyd Wright’s exquisitely designed homes is now for sale in California and can be yours for $4.25 million.

The ‘Fawcett House,’ a seven-bedroom, six-bathroom home located in California’s Central Valley, was recently listed and is perfect for anyone who likes to combine indoor and outdoor living.

We no longer have an exterior and an interior as two separate things. Now the outside can go in, and the inside can and does come out,” the famed architect said of the house, according to the Frank Lloyd Wright Building Conservancy.

The house is located in the Central Valley of California.

The house, located 120 miles southeast of San Francisco, is one of many designed by the architect whose designs were praised for their open and light concepts.

Other Wright-designed properties have sold for anywhere from $725,000 to one currently listed for $7.95 million.

The Los Banos home is located on 76 acres of land in the Central Valley and in 2019 won the California Preservation Design Award for Restoration.

However, it almost did not come to fruition.

After landowner Buck Fawcett proposed the site to Wright, the architect said he didn’t want to do it: “There’s not much beauty there.”

“Actually, Mr. Wright, the Central Valley of California contains the most fertile farmland in the world, and you should consider it an honor to build a home there,” Fawcett replied.

Wright’s interest was piqued and it ended up being one of the only houses situated on open acres of land that the architect designed during his lifetime.

The house almost didn’t happen, as Wright originally said that he didn’t see “much beauty there.”

The impressive house is also considered one of the best examples of Wright’s signature ‘Usonian’ house.

The term refers to some sixty middle-class houses designed by Wright.

Usonian houses are typically smaller properties, often single-story, with no garage.

They are mostly L-shaped to fit a terrace garden and rely on solar heating and natural cooling, which means more windows and doors.

“A strong visual connection between interior and exterior spaces is an important feature of all Usonian homes,” California Preservation Foundation notes.

That was the intent, according to the Frank Lloyd Wright Building Conservancy.

They are each other. Form and function thus become one in design and execution if the nature of the materials, the method, and the purpose are all in unison, Wright saying.

Photos of the property shared this week by Zillow Gone Wild, a social media page that highlights interesting and sometimes funny listings.

The pictures clearly show the abundance of natural light the home sees from the many windows.

The house has large open spaces and long narrow ones all consecrated by light.

The 1955 construction caught the attention of some social media users who were captivated by the beauty of the house, as well as the large number of windows.

‘So if I buy this house, does that mean I have to stop throwing rocks?’ joked one person.

‘I love it all, but someone else is going to have to clean all those windows and glass doors!!’ someone commented.

The house has six bathrooms in addition to the seven bedrooms.

Wright is often credited as one of the greatest American architects of all time.

The designer died in 1959 at the age of 91.

His illustrious career included 1,100 designs and more than 500 projects.

Eight of his buildings have been added to the UNESCO World Heritage list as cultural sites, perhaps the most famous among them, the Guggenheim Museum on Fifth Avenue in New York City.

More than a third of Wright’s remaining 409 structures are listed on the National Register of Historic Places or are in a National Historic District.

Possibly the most famous private creation, Fallingwater outside Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, was once named the “greatest work of American architecture of all time” by the American Institute of Architects.

The house was built for the Kaufman family, owners of Pittsburgh’s largest department store, in the 1930s.

The house is impressively located above a living waterfall in a wooded area.

Millions have visited the house since it opened to the public nearly 60 years ago.
