Struggling Adelaide footy team reeling after 516-point loss in one of the biggest margins recorded

  • Beat SA club Elizabeth by more than 500 points
  • Fitzroy was in good form, scoring 82 goals
  • One player scored almost thirty goals on his own

A local South Australian footy club has lost by one of the largest footy margins in history, failing to score a single goal in the 516-point thrashing this weekend.

On Saturday, Division 6 Elizabeth Football club took on Fitzroy at Argana Park, and things did not go as planned for the Eagles.

The match finished 82.24 (516) to 0.0 (0), with Fitzroy scoring 82 goals.

Fitzroy striker Josh Rosenthal scored a whopping 29 goals for the Lions, while midfielder Dylan Richard also scored 13 goals and James Ellis scored 17 goals.

Rosenthal’s win was the biggest the league has seen since Darren Mitchell scored the 32nd for Hope Valley in 2019.

Fitzroy coach Darryl Cotter was very happy with his team’s performance.

“It’s clear the boys are very happy and we’ve started the year very well now,” he said News Corp.

“We played a good team game, played according to our structures and didn’t really have individuals, which was nice.

‘It was a bit bittersweet, I have a lot of love for my old club and they are in a difficult position at the moment.

“We all want them to survive and want to help as best we can and the boys were very humble about the win.”

Cotter said he hoped his side, now third on the ladder below Salisbury and Eastern Park, could use the momentum built up to launch a finals attack.

‘We want to use this momentum and continue to play the team game the right way.

“Hopefully, if we can keep doing that and keep building, we can compete with the top and get to finals.”

Elizabeth has struggled this season, conceding 1,424 points already, and the club told fans it is working hard.

“It is true that the A-class is struggling, but rest assured that the committee, volunteers and coaches at all levels are working hard to ensure that the EFC has a successful year,” the organization said in a statement.

“We may not be able to measure that success in wins, but we can measure it in continuous improvement and growth.

‘We would also like to recognize and thank the players who made the decision to stand behind the EFC and who persevered, whether that be a win or a loss. We are extremely grateful to you.

‘We also work with local businesses in the northern suburbs in an effort to see continued improvement in the running of the club… but we cannot do this without the continued support of all our members, for which we are forever grateful .

“So rest assured that the EFC wants to grow in 2025 and beyond.”
