Matt Goss has revealed that he felt he “fell into a dark space” before returning to the UK from Las Vegas.

The singer, 53, who has signed on to the new season of Strictly Come Dancing, explained that joining the dance show “felt like a sign” to get him out of his routine.

After losing his mother Carol in 2014, the Bros star also describes “steaming through” the grief by working instead.

Mental health: Matt Goss, 53, has shared that he decided to join Strictly Come Dancing after feeling he ‘fell in a dark place’

Matt has returned to his hometown of London after spending 25 years in the US, with an 11-year residency at Caesers Palace.

Having previously been asked to do the show, the star shared that this time around it was a personal decision after he felt his mental health took a plunge.

He told MailOnline and other publications, “I’ve been asked to do the show a few times. But this year I was withdrawn in an unhealthy way into my world of shows, concerts and touring.

‘I would withdraw too much, especially now that it was my eleventh year of my residency.’

The singer, who was one-third of the 80s boy band Bros, lost his mother Carol to breast cancer in 2014 — after moving her to Los Angeles to care for her during the battle.

In addition to taking care of his mother, he took care of his stepfather Tony four years after her death – while working at the same time.

And recalling how he began to miss home, Matt continued, “I lost my mother and I was steaming through my grief with my job. Because of that, I just missed London and said “I want to go home”.

“And a week or two after that, Strictly called and it just felt like a sign. I can either go back to that secluded place or I can do it and go my own way.
