The Bros legend, 54, recalled the terrifying incident, which took place in Camberwell, south London, when he was just seven years old, and admitted he can still “lively see the face” of the person who tried to kidnap him.
Matt revealed in his memoir, More Than You Know, “A man tried to grab me in a car. I can still see his face vividly, dark-haired and with a mustache.’

He continued: ‘I used to often sit on the wall at a retirement home. One day I was there, just hanging out and really being a kid, when I heard a noise behind me.
“I looked around and saw this man reaching for me. Over his shoulder, I saw his car parked by the grass verge with the back door open.
“I jumped off the wall that was ten feet from the sidewalk and ran all the way home. It scared me to death.’

Matt is currently entertaining the nation with his turn on Strictly Come Dancing, but found himself in the dreaded first dance-off on Sunday.
The singer and his dance partner Nadiya Bychkova were forced to perform their Samba to Night Fever by the Bee Gees to impress the judges and stay in the competition.
Their routine was deemed enough to keep them going for another week, with Kaye Adams and her dance partner Kai Widdrington the first couple to be knocked out after failing to wow with their Charleston to Music! Music! Music! by Dorothy Provine.
After both couples danced a second time, the judges rendered their verdict, with Craig Revel Horwood choosing to save Matt and Nadiya.
Craig said, “Well, the couple before me that I thought danced the best that night, and the couple I’d like to save is Matt and Nadiya.”
Motsi Mabuse also chose to save Matt and Nadiya, adding: ‘Well, that was so close, both couples made mistakes. I feel like they were on the same level, but one couple was a little bit better for me, and I’m saving Matt and Nadiya.”

Confirming the result, Anton Du Beke said: ‘Well it wasn’t a vintage dance-off, and I know exactly how they feel and I’ve been in that position myself many times and I think if you had the chance, you’d want to. go again, both of you.
“There were a lot of mistakes for both couples, I had the feeling that one couple also lost performance, so I would like to save Matt & Nadiya.”
With three votes to Nadiya and Matt, it meant they won the majority of the vote and would leave the contest anyway, but Chief Judge Shirley Ballas said she would have decided to save Kaye and Kai.
When asked if she agreed with the other judges, she said, “I didn’t, I thought a slightly better quality saved Kaye and Kai.”
