Strictly’s Bobby Brazier reveals how his suspension from school led to his big break after a chance meeting with a casting agent

He may be Strictly’s darling and on the verge of becoming a millionaire, but Bobby Brazier has revealed the secret to his success was being suspended from school three times in two weeks.

The actor, who is the favorite to lift the Glitter Ball Trophy with his professional dance partner Dianne Buswell, has told how harsh it was to tell his father, presenter Jeff Brazier, 44, at a coffee shop near their home in Essex, which led to him dazzling fans in BBC One’s popular ballroom match.

Bobby was summoned to the family’s local Costa for a pep talk after getting into trouble at his private school, and it was there that his model appearance was noticed by a casting agent who was there randomly on the same day.

The star said: ‘On the way to Costa the casting agent ran after me and gave me his card.

“Then I went to this meeting with my director with a big smile on my face.”

The son of the late reality TV star Jade Goody, Bobby completed his GCSEs before embarking on a successful career in the fashion world, working for Italian luxury brands such as Dolce & Gabbana and Moschino.

Bobby, who will make his first appearance with Diane, 34, on Saturday evening, also revealed he struggled to get into a fee-paying school with his thick Essex accent inherited from his parents – and was later bullied when his classmates knew who his mother was.

He said: ‘At the private school everyone comes from the same generations of wealthy families, but not my parents.

“I have insight from both sides of the spectrum, so I felt like a bit of a black sheep.”

Bobby, who will play a Foxtrot in McFly’s All About You, moved to Brighton with his family in year eight and attended the local state school.

Once again he struggled to fit in and admitted: ‘I was torn apart every day by the boys in my class, it was like they were jealous of me and wanted to pick on everything I did.

‘As soon as I joined, the whole school knew who I was. I didn’t consider it jealousy until I left a year later. At the time I just asked myself, ‘Why don’t I fit in?’.”

Earlier this week, Bobby left Holly Willoughby blushing on This Morning with a cheeky X-rated joke.

The EastEnders actor made this funny confession ahead of this weekend’s first live show.

‘This weekend, the big first live show, can you tell us something?’ asked host Holly.

Bobby admitted, “I think it’s either going to be really good or really bad.”

‘He only knows one style at the moment. But I think he will be best in that style. Bobby has a natural groove and great charisma,” Dianne explained.

Holly continued: ‘I think he would have been attracted to Latin,’ as Dermot added: ‘Yes… the hips.’

Bobby laughed and exclaimed, “The bumping!”

‘You said that!’ Holly replied, her face turning red.

Bobby joked that he got his “moves” from his father Jeff, exclaiming, “My dad is a good mover!” Where do you think I got the caterpillar?’
